How To Prepare a Commercial Auto Insurance Checklist

Some businesses rely on automotive vehicles for the critical parts of their operations. If this is the case for your business, then you may need to invest in commercial automobile insurance. Investing in a commercial automobile insurance policy for your business-dependent vehicles can protect your business with monetary returns should these vehicles get damaged or break down within the regulations of the insurance policy. The first step in getting your business vehicles insured is by creating a checklist for the insurance. Consult multiple policy holders to get a grasp of what the insurance can do for your business.

1. Provide your information. Visit your prospective policy holder and start out by handing him the basic information about you and your business. Get a piece of paper and writer your full name and contact information. In addition, write down the name of your business and your office address.
2. Provide the details of your business. For the policy holder to understand your needs, you will need to provide details about your business. Give him a description of your business, the date the business started, and the registration of the business. If you business is a corporation or partnership, let the policy holder know the other members of the business. Make sure to explain what your business does clearly so that the policy holder will know what he can offer you.
3. Describe the vehicles and their importance in your business. First off, make sure to tell your policy holder the importance of the vehicles to your business. For example, if your business provides hauling services, then tell the policy holder that you have trucks and if something happened to them, then your business will experience hell. In this case, the policy holder will understand the importance of these vehicles to your business. Remember to enumerate all the vehicles that you want to insure. Provide the make, model, year, and Vehicle Identification number (VIN) of each vehicle. If you have a lot of vehicles, create a catalog with all the vehicles, pictures of each vehicle, and the needed information listed therein.

4. Provide a list of people that operate the vehicles. Commercial auto insurance will only become valid if the insured vehicle will be operated by specific people listed in the insurance policy. In this case, list down all the people that will be operating each vehicle that will be insured. Make sure to submit the name, motor vehicle record, and a copy of the driver’s license or permit of each person listed. Bear in mind that each person will be linked to a specific vehicle so be diligent and plan this out.
5. Determine the coverage. Policies for commercial vehicle insurance for limited liability coverage can range from $10,000 to $1,000,000. Consult with the insurance agent or policy holder and determine the best option for your vehicles. Normally, the coverage will be dependent on the importance of the vehicle and its current depreciated value.

Once you have provided all the information needed to your policy holder, it is time for them to draft the policy for your approval. Acquiring coverage for your business vehicles is vital in protecting your business from accidents and damages that can weaken how it operates.

European Car Insurance

Around eight million Brits take their cars to the Continent every year, but many wrongly assume their existing policy provides the same level of cover in Europe as it does here in the UK. Research into European car insurance from moneysupermarket.com found that 39% of motorists weren't aware that many insurers downgrade your level of cover if you take your car abroad.

What protection is available for driving in Europe?

Unless you take out a specific European car insurance policy, chances are you will only be covered for basic road traffic accidents or third party cover. Only a handful of insurers automatically extend comprehensive cover to travelling abroad and some only increase cover if you contact them, even if extended coverage is free.

The basic level of cover is known as an international motor insurance certificate, or a Green Card. If you are involved in an accident in several European countries including Malta, Romania, Poland and Andorra you will need to produce a green card to prevent your car being impounded. Most insurers will provide the Green Card on request, usually with first class delivery to your contact address.

However, the Green Card only provides the minimum level of cover you need for travelling in a European Union country - and in some cases this may be less than third party only cover in the UK.
Get a new car insurance quote now
How can you get the level of protection you need?

To extend the level of cover you get when you take your car abroad, you will usually have to pay an extra charge to your insurer. Many providers offer European insurance that matches the level of protection you have in the UK as an optional extra with cover for up to 90 days of travel in one policy year (coverage periods vary).

Be wary however, as some insurers that claim to offer European car insurance may still exclude certain aspects of coverage. For example, many insurers will not provide legal protection or breakdown cover while abroad. You should also consider the countries that are covered by the policy - insurers may only cover travel in member countries of the European Union.

Rates vary widely and you may need to shop around to find cheap European car insurance. Europe can be more expensive than the UK for repairs and part replacements, and many insurers take into account the type of car being covered and other pertinent factors. Consequently you should read the terms and conditions of your policy carefully before you travel.

Auto insurance is required by law in all states and protects you by paying for damage or injury you cause others while driving your car; damage to your car or injury to you or your passengers in your car from a crash; and certain other occurrences such as theft and vandalism. Without insurance, you risk having to pay the full cost of any harm you cause others with your vehicle.

Personal Injury Protection: This is required in many states. It pays you or your passengers for medical treatment resulting from a crash, regardless of who may have been at fault, and is often called no-fault coverage. It may also pay for lost earnings, replacement of services and funeral expenses. State law usually sets minimum required amounts.
Medical Payments: This coverage is available in some states (usually the states without no-fault insurance), and pays regardless of who may have been at fault. It pays for an insured person's reasonable and necessary medical and funeral expenses for bodily injury from a crash.
Collision: This pays for damage to your car caused by collision.
Comprehensive: This pays for damage to your car caused by "Other Than Collision"; including fire, wind, hail, vandalism and animal strikes.
Uninsured Motorist: This pays damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have liability insurance or by a hit and run driver.

What Are the Different Types of Auto Insurance

auto insurance
There are a number of different types of auto insurance that are available to drivers. In the United States, auto insurance is mandatory and not a choice. However, drivers can enjoy a number of varying insurance offerings in order to allow them the flexibility in cost and coverage that they are looking for from their insurance company. Not all insurance companies offer the varying types of coverage, so it is very important for you to check with your company to learn the limitations of what they have to offer you.
Liability coverage from an auto insurance company will cover the damage that occurs to other drivers as a result of your actions. There are a few different levels to liability coverage. First, bodily injury liability will cover the cost of another person's medical costs or death if they are hurt in an accident that is found to be your fault. If a person in an accident files a case against you as a result of the accident, liability coverage can provide you with some legal defense. You will want your liability coverage to ensure that if a claim is brought against you, you have enough insurance to cover a judgment without involving your own personal finances or assets.
Property damage liability covers the cost of repair or replacement when you damage someone else's property in an accident if the accident is proven to be your fault. Insurance collectively referred to as comprehensive and collision coverage will cover the cost of repair or replacement of your vehicle in the event of an accident. In some cases, the coverage will also cover the cost of another vehicle if you are not driving your own when the accident occurs.
Comprehensive insurance coverage can also cover the cost of your vehicle if your car is stolen, damaged by animals, a fire or flooding. Specific coverage is limited to the terms and conditions set forth in your insurance policy; as such, individuals need to check with their insurance company for details in their policy.
Underinsured motorist property damage covers the cost of repairs when the negligent party possesses insurance, but the limitations of which would not be enough to repair the damage caused. Underinsured motorist bodily damage covers the medical costs for you, members of your household and passengers in your car when the insurance of the negligent driver does not cover the entirety of the amount needed. Uninsured property damage protects the vehicle of a person who gets into an accident with a negligent driver who does not have insurance.
Uninsured motorist bodily injury protects insurance policy holders, members or their household and passengers in their vehicle from medical costs or the costs of death. This policy will be relevant in the event that an no-fault driver does not have insurance. Only twelve states within the United States offer no-fault insurance, where insurance coverage is covered on the part of the policy holder regardless of whose fault the accident may be. This means that your vehicle or bodily damage will be covered by your own insurance, whether you are the negligent driver or not.

How to Find Cheap Car Insurance

auto insurance
With the rising costs of fuel and just about every other good or service we purchase, many of us are looking for cheap car insurance. When it comes to cheap car insurance most of us are clueless as to how to go about getting a low cost car insurance policy. There are many factors that influence your car insurance costs drastically.
For example, did you know that the type of car you drive will influence the cheap car insurance you're looking for? Or did you know that using anti theft devices will help reduce your over all car insurance costs? A good driving record will allow you to get cheap car insurance?
The deductible is the amount you pay first out of any claim for an accident. The car insurance policy's cost is directly related to your deductible. A lot of people, especially those with a good driving record, who have had their insurance policy for a long time, have never considered varying their deductible. If you have a clean driving record and are prepared for the risk of paying a larger amount in the event of a claim you can save money by increasing your deductible.
Many times you can get cheap car insurance by combining policies with you existing insurance company. For example if you have a home owners insurance policy contact them and ask for discounts for switching your car insurance to them. If you don't own a home perhaps you have renters insurance or life insurance, contact these companies about the savings you could get by switching your car insurance over to them. Most insurance companies are very accommodating to these requests.

How Your Credit History Can Affect Premium Amounts for Your Auto Insurance Comparison.

If you've recently read a government-issued consumer guide about car insurance, you may have noticed that these guides often recommend online auto insurance comparisons as a way to shop for the best insurance policy. That's because the writers of the guides understand that most consumers lead busy lives and need a quick, easy solution to shopping for car insurance. The Internet enables anyone to fill in a short form and quickly obtain general quotes from as many as 10 to 12 insurance companies. Some companies might provide an instant quote while others will e-mail you with a quote and more information.

What you might not realize is that many car insurance providers will consider your credit history and/or rating when determining your premium quote. Credit bureau reporting of good credit/poor credit is no longer just a means of getting a loan or credit card. If you have worked hard to keep your credit score high, then your hard work may pay off for years to come by saving you dollars not only on loan interest, but also car insurance premiums.

Why Does Credit Matter to Car Insurance Companies?

It's plain and simple....there's a direct correlation between a person's credit/loan behaviors and the number of claims they may incur. Based on years of research, many insurance companies feel that consumers with a higher credit rating are less likely to incur high losses in insurance claims. Basically, if you pay your bills on time faithfully for years, then you're more likely to be a careful driver and of course, pay your insurance premiums on time as well. Not to mention folks with a high credit rating tend to be middle-aged or older, and therefore are in the safer driving age range!

Is it Legal for Car Insurance Companies to View Your Credit History?

Yes, it is perfectly legal under the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act. This act states (in a nutshell) that consumer reporting agencies are to use reasonable procedures to meet the needs of commerce for credit, insurance, personnel, and other information. In other words, insurance companies have just as much right to obtain your credit score and history as do creditors and potential employers.

Though some car insurance providers will consider your actual credit reports, others may use what's called an "insurance credit score." This score is created using various factors such as your public records, type of credit you have including store cards, credit cards, finance company loans, etc., unused credit, open lines of credit, credit inquiries, past payment history, and the length of your credit history. This score helps predict the likelihood of anticipated insurance losses, sort of like lenders determining whether or not you are a high-risk borrower.

When you compare car insurance, be sure to ask how your credit score will affect your insurance premium with each company. If you have very good credit, look for insurance providers that put a lot of weight in credit ratings. This can give you leverage when obtaining quotes from these companies.

Keep in mind that there are other factors that will determine your premium when you compare auto insurance. Auto insurance comparison companies will also consider the type of vehicle you drive, your age, your driving records, where you live, and whether you are eligible for various insurance premium discounts. The type of coverage you need as well as your deductible will also affect your premium rates.

Car insurance comparison websites provide a wonderful opportunity to find the insurance company that's right for you. Take advantage of this free and easy tool, and use your good credit as a way to maximize your savings!

A Begginers Guide To Car Insurance.

Auto insurance as we all know is the insurance consumers purchase for their vehicle be it a car, truck or any other automobile. The purpose of auto insurance is to safeguard the vehicle against accidents, theft and any other loss incurred. Auto insurance can cover, the insured party, the insured vehicle and the third parties. Different policies specify the situations under which each of these items is covered.
Like life insurance, auto insurance too has become the need of the hour. A surge in insecurity of the vehicles has resulted in many big and small companies venturing in this area and trying their luck.
There are different types of auto insurances available. The policies vary with the need and wants of the people purchasing the policy. For example certain types of insurance policies include bodily injury liability, property damage liability, medical payments, and collision and comprehension coverage for physical damage to the insured vehicle.
Broadly speaking an auto insurance policy is divided into five parts.
1. Declarations- this part of policy contains personal information about the drivers in your house. This includes their name and address, make and model of the vehicle, vehicle identification number, policy number, duration etc. This part also comprises of basic type of coverage that you purchased and your policy limits and deductibles. It is very important to provide correct information in this area; otherwise the insurance claim can be declined at ease.
2. Coverage Parts- in this option the coverage limits such as liability, medical, collision and comprehensive are discussed. This section primarily outlines what your insurance company guarantees to provide in return for your payment, based on the coverage and coverage limits opted.
3. Exclusions- this section briefs about what is left uncovered by your policy's limitations. From here you will get to know that what all will be covered when you make a claim and allows you to make rectifications in the policy.
4. Conditions- this section is all about legitimacy i.e. the legal bindings on the insurer and the insured. It includes premium payment obligations, steps to filing a claim, and guidance to resolve disputes.
5. Definitions- also known as fine print, this segment is where terms and the rights of the policyholder and the insurance company are defined.
In several countries it is mandatory to purchase auto insurance before driving on public roads. The least requirement in this area is third party insurance to protect the third parties against the loss, damage or accident by a vehicle. You may or may not get an insurance cover against loss or damage to your own vehicle. While some other countries make the insurance of both the car and the driver compulsory.
Car insurance plans a regular flat charge per-car or per year despite of the extent to which the car is used. There is no adequate statistical basis for the insurers to compare costs used to support price classifications. Other well known methods of differentiation are reasonable estimation, odometer based systems, GPS based system and OBDII-based system.

Florida Tough Teen Driving Laws, Insurance Regulations.

In Florida, auto insurance coverage is mandatory for everyone operating a vehicle. The minimum the law will allow is $10,000 of bodily injury coverage for one person, $20,000 for more than one, and $10,000 in property damage liability. The state law says that these minimums must be in place when the operator of the vehicle incurs a DUI citation, the result of which is revocation of his or her driver's license.
Additionally the minimum coverage must be in force should a driver have an accident that is his or her fault and which involves any injuries. A driver whose license gets suspended for having received too many points on it, or because of habitual traffic offenses must carry the minimums as well. While coverage for uninsured and under-insured drivers is not a requirement of Florida drivers the state says that each insurance carrier must offer the coverage and must document in writing any time a driver is offered such coverage and declines it.
Florida auto insurance carriers and the state itself, realizing that teenagers have far more accidents in southern states than in other areas of the country, worked together to devise a plan to improve the teen accident statistics. One of the first states to implement a Graduated Drivers License (GDL) plan, Florida has realized a nine percent decrease in auto accidents that involved teens, in just one year of the program.
As of 1996, when this highly successful plan went into effect, teens must pass three distinct levels of licensing before they are issued a final license to operate a vehicle on their own. The GDL requires that anyone 15 or 16 years of age must pass a driver's education class before even applying for a learner's permit. Once the learner's permit is issued, the teenager still has to undergo 50 hours of supervised driving, 10 hours of which must be after sunset. The teen has to drive with the learner's permit for one year, and have a flawless driving record during that year, before he or she can apply for a license. The license then issued is a restricted one, what Florida calls a Class E license, only given to Florida residents 16 or 17 years of age.
Then, to obtain a standard driver's license, the teenager must obtain written parental consent, pass an additional course in substance abuse, prove Florida residency, provide his or her social security card, pass both a written and vision test, and pay a small fee.
While these Florida regulations may seem a bit harsh, the reduction in teen auto accidents is notable. Of course, another distinct advantage of these tough regulations is that teens who follow these guidelines of driver's education training and clean driving record for one year will pay far less for their Florida auto insurance than others who fail to comply.

Low Cost Auto Insurance As Valid As Expensive Policies

Many people wrongly believe that low cost auto insurance is "less valid" than the overly expensive policies. Under that logic, you would reject that hot new gaming system just because it goes on sale. By shopping outside of the "popular" companies and using the five tips below, you can claim a good deal on the coverage you need.
Deductible: When you have a higher deductible, you will pay less per month. In exchange for the insurance company giving you a discount, you will be expected to pay more out of pocket if you have an accident. Raising the deductible is a great way to reduce your insurance expense. Coverage Per Person: Each state requires a certain level of protection in the case of an accident.
By meeting or exceeding these minimums, you will remain a legal driver. Higher coverage costs more, but the insurance company will pay out more for a claim. Credit Check: Many insurance companies will check your credit history and use that information as one way to decide how much you will pay. If you have good credit, you have an advantage. If your credit needs some improvement, you may get a better deal through companies that do not put as much weight into your credit report or do not use it at all. Maximize Your Discounts: Even after you have found a low-cost car insurance policy, you may be able to shave a few dollars off the price through a multi-policy discount (home, auto, life insurance, etc.), a good student discount, or a paperless statements agreement. Shop Around: Different insurance companies can offer similar policies for many different prices. By comparing the coverage limits, ease of making a claim, and impact to your bank account, you are sure to get the best low cost auto insurance.

Three Mistakes Businesses Make About E & O Insurance

Every business needs e & o insurance. People who automatically fastener their seatbelt before they start the vehicle joyfully go through life without this wonderful protection because they lack valuable information. Business owners believe lawsuits are only filed when a mistake happens or that they are protected from mistakes under their general insurance policy. Sometimes businesses have this insurance or think they do. Once people understand that errors and omissions insurance lets businesses keep operating while professionals handle legal issues, they will gladly invest in this protection.
The belief that lawsuits are the result of a mistake or a problem is false. As many lawsuits are filed over an allegation of negligence or from the fruitful imagination of an opportunist looking for easy money, everyone and anyone can be a target. Whether the lawsuit is justified or frivolous, the cost to defend or settle the suit is expensive. Lawyers invest hundreds of billable hours in getting the facts, taking depositions and filing legal documents. Although most e & o policies provide money for defense attorneys, the real value is in the quality of attorneys these insurance companies hire. These are specialists in the industry with a clear understanding of the law working for the insured and insurance company.
Regular business liability insurance does not cover e & o issues. When a business owner or employee makes a mistake, there is no insurance to cover the cost of fixing it. A florist shop may send wedding flowers to a funeral. An auto repair facility uses the wrong part. An electrician does not install lights in a room. An accountant missed the tax deadlines. A doctor amputates the wrong leg. An attorney forgets a filing date. All these businesses or people are uninsured and will be expected to fix the mistake or reimburse people for actual expenses, pain and suffering. This could be extremely expensive.
Each e & o policy needs to fit the industry and business. A careful review of existing policies by an experienced agent familiar with that industry will alert policyholders to potential problems. For example if a real estate company also manages the owner's rental properties, the policy may not cover property management and the claim from a tenant who suffered injuries. An insurance agent familiar with the industry can help companies customize this policy to their method of operation.
E & o insurance is a valuable protection allowing people and businesses to continue operating when something happens. Legal problems can come at any time and mistakes and negligence are not covered under any other business insurance. As each business operates differently, periodically reviewing existing errors and omissions policies to make sure these cover current business operations guarantees this coverage is available when it is needed.
